To kick off the New Year with a bang, my friend Evi Abeler and I hosted our very first (and what we hope to be annual) Vision Board party for a few superstar friends and family in New York. We each created our “Go Get The Life You Deserve!” collages on poster board and in journal books, using images from magazines, personal photos and mementos, money, stamps, etc. while noshing on yummies, sipping on mimosas, and listening to Robert Glasper. What an inspired, fun time of dreams, goals, aspirations, and lots of laughter!

If you’ve never created a vision board, now’s the time to get the glue stick! We all know the phrase “What you focus on becomes your reality.” So no better time than the present to create a picture that tells the Universe exactly what you want! It’s not hard, and when you get a group of friends together it’s definitely a blast. Follow these six simple steps to get started:

Step 1: Grab a piece of poster board or journal book (or anything else you can stick stuff on). Some of our guests preferred poster boards so that they could, like me, display it in an open place. While, others opted for a journal they could review privately. Either works for sure. You decide.

Step 2: Gather magazines, website images, photos, etc. for your board. We asked our friends to bring some and we had plenty! But, no worries if magazines aren’t your thing. There’s plenty to print from the internet. Plus, we also used stamps, wrote quotes, and anything else we could find that inspired us. Be creative!

Step 3: Close your eyes, get quiet, and take a few deep breaths. Ok! I know what you’re thinking, “This is vision boarding NOT yoga or meditation!” Stick with me here! Just take a moment to clean the slate. Give your mind a gentle nudge toward letting go of negative, limiting thoughts and letting in rock star beliefs.

Step 4: Take some time to browse. Look through your magazines, photos, vision boardy stuff, without an intention and see what jumps out at you. It might be a word or a phrase or a photo. Perhaps you’ll come up with a theme for the year like I did (“Turn it up!”). Cut, print, tear it out, set it to the side and keep going. Hold tight on the glue stick. You’re building here.

Step 5: Once you’ve got a nice collage pile going, it’s time to start glueing, taping, stamping, writing, etc. Really, there’s no right or wrong way to set up your board. I tend to lean towards sectioning by work, family, travel, and the miscellaneous passions of a Gemini Yogini Foodie mind. But, again, this is your board and your vision.

Step 6: Voila! You’re done…or maybe not? Don’t be surprised if your board is a work in progress. Isn’t that how life is? It’s a journey that you continue to build upon. So take your time. Focus on what you’ve got and know that the Universe is delivering it to you already. You just have to open your heart and mind to receive it! Just see it, start it and as you live this life this year add on, adjust, and delete as needed.

Did you create a vision board for this year? Would love to hear about it!
