How I Made Monday My New BFF

Awhile ago I decided to take Mondays off. I was burnt out from teaching yoga classes, facilitating workshops, giving talks, retreats, family commitments, social commitments, etc. I needed a day off. And, since I, along with every other person on planet Earth (or so I made myself believe) hated Mondays, I felt it was the best day to drop. However, I felt like as an entrepreneur I would be betraying my goals and my company if I dared succomb to a sleep-in or a do-nothing day. But, my yogi “rest is valuable and required” self was no longer whispering. It was time and Monday was out.

So, I took my day. And, at first, I was like “Why didn’t I do this sooner?” I was sleeping in and waking up at a very decent 7:00am, having coffee, morning yoga and meditation, baking homemade no-knead bread for my family, having date night, doing all of my regrouping and Vision Board loving, going to the dentist, having lunch with friends, and doing really Cool Kid stuff.

This regular day off thing was golden! Or so I thought.

Fast forward two weeks and the fun, Cool Kid stuff had all but vanished. I was laying around in my pajamas well into the afternoon, checking social media, reading my favorite magazines, texting friends at work, and basically doing my damndest not to do any of the work I loved to do. Because, well, it was my special day off and rules are rules. Snore.

I love what I do. No, really, I love showing up each day, sharing my gifts and inspiring people to live their best lives. I could do it everyday. I could talk about it everyday. But, should I work my fingers to the bone and never have a moment’s rest or do fun, Cool Kid stuff? No! Of course not. But, what I did realize is that I looked forward to living my life and doing my life’s work. It was my “Yaaaaaassss!”(Insert finger snap here.) moment. Because, when you wake up each day and want and crave to do what you do so fabulously, serving others, with all that you have, you’re going the right way. You are on the right the path. You’re living your Awesome Life!
