“I mean, wow!” he exclaimed right after I told him my latest life plans.
This is a response I’ve heard before. Let me introduce myself. “Hello, I’m a serial risk-taker, go after my dreams while inspiring others, Big Life liver. Nice to meet you.”
I have some amazing friends, and sometimes I freak a few of them out completely with my Awesome Life journey. Today I’m here, tomorrow I’m there. This month I’m heading corporate training programs, next month I’m leading international yoga retreats. This year I decide on culinary school, next year I opt to write a motivational book. New York today, Paris tomorrow. It’s my path and I’m good with it. Actually, I’m extra good with it.
What I know is that your path is just that – -yours. It may freak out a few people because it won’t look like, sound like, smell like or feel like what they believe they need in their lives. No judgement at all. It’s just different. It could also be a “wow!”you’re the bomb because that’s how I roll too! Or, it may scare the crap out of them because they’ve been living vicariously through you but are now like…
“Whoa! Slow your roll there partner, we’re not ready for this leap.”
Regardless, I’m always excited whenever I get that response. And, you should be too. Most of the time, it means you’re doing that thing that will continue to break down walls, open doors, support learning and growth, and shine a light on my offerings so that you can serve more people. I use it as a confirmation stamp that I’m digging up the right patch of dirt.
The people who are closest to us often know our Rockstar power and our weaknesses.
Receive their feedback with love and, perhaps, take a deeper look before you act. Perhaps. Sometimes, it’s that hesitation that can keep you from an opportunity of a lifetime. I’m just sayin’! That said, I am all about heeding the advice of your Rockstar Peeps who have the depth of experience, the love and the friendship time in to make an honest call on the situation. The good news is that you’ve caught the attention of said Rockstar Peeps!
And, if you’ve surrounded yourself with people who are also living their dreams – -the good, the bad, the ups, and the downs – -than, you’re probably going in the direction. They get it.
They might be a little freaked out because they know what it takes to leap without a net. They realize the amazingness and the challenging times that, more than likely, lie ahead. They’re on the journey too.
So get thrilled about freaking out your friends. It’s probably good thing!
